Technical Account Manager – E-commerce
We're seeking a Technical Account Manager (TAM) – E-commerce to serve as the day-to-day strategic partner for enterprise e-commerce, web development, and creative clients. This role sits at the intersection of e-commerce strategy, technical delivery, client relationships, and account growth, owning key partnerships and ensuring digital initiatives drive measurable business results.
The ideal candidate has a strong understanding of e-commerce ecosystems and the customer journey, with experience supporting complex websites, e-commerce platforms, integrations, and digital experiences. You will work closely with clients and internal engineering, design, strategy, and marketing teams to translate business objectives into actionable roadmaps and scalable technical solutions.
As a TAM, you will lead client engagements from planning through delivery, helping clients optimize their digital storefronts, improve customer experiences, support revenue growth, and solve complex technical challenges. You will be responsible for maintaining delivery health, managing stakeholder expectations, identifying risks, and uncovering opportunities to expand client partnerships.
This is a highly client-facing, consultative role requiring strong communication skills, technical fluency, e-commerce knowledge, and a structured, problem-solving mindset.
Essential Functions
- Serve as the primary day-to-day strategic contact for enterprise e-commerce clients across web development, digital experience, and creative engagements
- Develop a deep understanding of each client's e-commerce business model, digital ecosystem, customer journey, revenue drivers, and business objectives
- Own client strategy, delivery oversight, and relationship health, ensuring digital initiatives align with business goals and KPIs
- Translate e-commerce and business requirements into clear roadmaps, requirements, priorities, and technical direction
- Partner closely with engineering, UX/UI, creative, strategy, and marketing teams to execute complex digital initiatives
- Support end-to-end e-commerce delivery, including planning, requirements, timelines, scope, QA, deployment, and post-launch optimization
- Help clients identify opportunities to improve conversion rates, customer experience, site performance, merchandising, navigation, and overall digital revenue
- Proactively manage risks, escalations, technical dependencies, and competing priorities, ensuring issues are addressed quickly and effectively
- Serve as a technical translator, connecting business and e-commerce stakeholders with development and technical teams
- Lead key client engagements, including status calls, strategic planning sessions, roadmap discussions, and delivery reviews
- Maintain visibility into e-commerce performance metrics and KPIs, using data to inform recommendations and priorities
- Identify and pursue account growth opportunities, including upsells, expanded scopes of work, new capabilities, and additional e-commerce services
- Partner with technical teams to ensure solutions are feasible, scalable, secure, and aligned with e-commerce best practices
- Bring a structured, systems-oriented approach to problem solving, breaking down complex e-commerce and technical challenges into actionable solutions
E-commerce & Digital Experience
- Demonstrate a strong understanding of e-commerce customer journeys, from acquisition and site experience through conversion, checkout, and retention
- Understand the role of UX/UI, site architecture, performance, content, merchandising, search, analytics, and personalization in driving e-commerce outcomes
- Partner with clients on e-commerce roadmaps and digital transformation initiatives
- Understand common e-commerce challenges, including conversion optimization, site performance, integrations, platform limitations, technical debt, and scalability
- Work with clients and internal teams to prioritize initiatives based on business impact, technical complexity, and customer value
- Understand how e-commerce websites interact with broader CRM, analytics, marketing automation, payment, inventory, and third-party technology ecosystems
- Use data and client business objectives to help prioritize site enhancements, technical improvements, and growth initiatives
AI Enablement & Workflow Optimization
- Leverage AI-assisted tools such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and similar technologies to accelerate workflows, including requirements gathering, ticket creation, documentation, research, and synthesis of complex information
- Use AI to quickly ramp on unfamiliar e-commerce platforms, technologies, and technical concepts, enabling more effective collaboration with engineering teams
- Identify opportunities to use AI to improve client communication, documentation, project efficiency, and delivery quality
- Continuously identify opportunities to improve efficiency, quality, and speed through AI-assisted processes
- Apply sound judgment when evaluating AI-generated outputs, balancing automation with critical thinking, e-commerce expertise, and technical judgment
Required Qualifications
- 4–6+ years of experience in account management, client services, technical account management, digital delivery, or consulting
- 3+ years of direct e-commerce experience supporting enterprise or complex digital commerce environments
- Demonstrated experience managing enterprise e-commerce websites, digital platforms, or web development engagements
- Strong understanding of the e-commerce lifecycle and digital customer journey
- Experience working with or supporting e-commerce platforms, such as Shopify Plus, Adobe Commerce/Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce, or similar platforms
- Understanding of modern web development and e-commerce architectures, including:
- CMS and headless CMS platforms
- APIs and third-party integrations
- Front-end frameworks and web technologies
- E-commerce platforms and commerce engines
- Payment and checkout integrations
- Analytics and tracking technologies
- CRM and marketing technology ecosystems
- Strong understanding of the web development lifecycle, including UX/UI, development, QA, deployment, and ongoing optimization
- Experience working with enterprise clients and complex stakeholder environments
- Proven ability to own client relationships, manage expectations, and communicate effectively with business, marketing, e-commerce, and technical stakeholders
- Experience managing scope, timelines, priorities, dependencies, and cross-functional delivery
